About us
SLD Nelson teachers are qualified and experienced to teach students with specific learning disabilities. They participate in regular professional development. There are two NZCER Registered Level C cognitive and educational assessors.
SLD Nelson was established in 1987 as an incorporated society under its former name SPELD Nelson. It is a not- for- profit organization registered with the Charities Commission, supported by grants, fundraising and donations.
SLD Nelson is a member of the Learning Disabilities Association of New Zealand (LDANZ Inc) established in 2011.
There is a resource library of books and educational games available free of charge to members.
Our Teachers
SLD Nelson Inc has teachers working in the Nelson, Tasman and Golden Bay areas.
Teachers work one-to-one with students at their schools, or at the homes of the teachers or at the student’s home – both during and outside school hours.
Lessons are tailored to the specific needs of the student and cost $50 an hour. There is some assistance with funding lessons in cases of hardship.
